>> When the champions of Capitalism preach Socialism <<

I was on cloud no-9 yesterday twatching the Indian Space Program come of age with the launch of our lunar mission - Chandrayaan-I. But this joy soon turned into disgust on reading through the reactions of the world (mostly the western hemisphere) on India's success. The racist BBC news had an opinion poll on their website:

"Should India participate in the space race? Do you think the money should have been invested elsewhere? Is India right to embark on space exploration? "

The very fact that the British media has DARED to ask such a question highlights it is racist. But I went on reading through the thousands of comments that were posted over a period of a day and was left with disgust towards the end.

A majority of the westerners (barring few courteous, cultured and high thinkers) were seething with jealousy at this achievement of ISRO. Most of these lowly souls have never been to India in the recent past (some still worse, never been outside their city) and are willfully ignorant to the rise of India. The ignorant goons had each their own statistics on India, its economy and the standard of living. Many trolls still believe that 90% of India lives below poverty line. That India is in "dark-ages". That 60% of India does not have electricity. According to more recent surveys only 26% of India lives below the poverty line. (Down from 36% 10 years back).We are a food-surplus Nation you b*****ds! We feed 1.13 billion and yet export food grains to the rest of the world! The Indian middle class is larger than the USA or the European Union.

Some were even audacious enough to claim that India's Moon mission is being financed by the 835 million Euros (over 3 years) economic aid sanctioned by the British PM - Gordon Brown. They could not digest the fact that UK was giving economic aid to India. UK wouldn't do that for nothing (besides these are only LOANS!), it is all with vested Interests. India is a large investor in UK. Our business tycoons have generated thousands of Jobs in your country and remember India was looted and plundered of all its wealth by your British imperialist rascals. The damage you had done to "Soney Ki Chidiya" is irreparable no matter how much aid you give back in return. Know your history before you talk smack. How I wish I was born in the 30s, I would have felt great joy in punching the face of these imperialist b****ds.

Time and again they bring up the "social classes/caste system" into any argument that revolves around India's progress. Is it not ironically ridiculous? These racist Brits (and their clan) speaking of "Social Classes" ???

It is beyond their primitive brains to understand what an investment in Science and Technology means in the long run. Every one of those scumbags had the standard question "Why waste 80 million $ on lofty moon missions when the money can be better spent feeding your poor?". You dolts have no idea of economics. This launch is an investment that will reap future benefits. Besides the thousands of jobs it would have created over the last 10 years, at 80 million$ this is by far the most economical unmanned lunar mission ever! We beat the Chinese and Japanese in economic efficiency of Space explorations. Pretty soon you guys (Europeans) will be in queue seeking India's expertise in putting your satellite into orbit (your failing economies will run out of dough to finance your own launches).

But since when has the west started worrying about the poor? Are you trying to insinuate that your countries are devoid of poor people? What have you done to your poor or even the middle class? Your countries are busy bailing out your sinking banks.

Iceland which prides itself on a per-capita income of 60,000$, is on the verge of bankruptcy and is begging for bailouts. What could your greedy-filthy rich do to avoid this collapse or revive it? US and EU are each pumping in 700 billion$ and 500 billion Euros to shore up its economy. Couldn't this money be better spent on feeding their poor? Or reforming their broken health-care (US) ? In making college education more affordable for their youth? Providing shelter to their homeless army veterans? Relocating those who lost everything in the hurricane Ike/Katrina ? Should you be spending so much on the war in Iraq when your own Nation is under a serious economic crisis? (with your debt clock running out of digits lol!)

Why should 80 billion $ be used in bailing out AIG, whose executives go on a junket vacation spending 400,000$ of the tax payers money, the very next day after the govt bails them out?

And what have you done to help the poor anyway? Have you fed them or clothed them or given them an education? Don't you get a sense of pride in mocking at the third world? Did we disappoint you by the gradual reclamation of our rightful place in world?

Most of the lowly ABCD scums (the most despicable community in my experience --- there are of course the good ones always...but I haven't seen them yet) found this as a chance to flaunt their "been there, done that, you missed the space race by 50 years". Listen up you uncouth, disrespectful losers, your parents know what it was like to struggle to get to the top. If you don't mend your ways, you will realize it the hard way. If you are talking smack about India, it is a failure of your parents in your upbringing. They should be ashamed of themselves for having brought up profligate nincomPOOPs like you.If everything that one needs to know about the Moon has already been done why the heck does NASA and the ESA have its own devices on board the Chandrayaan? You should care to read the objectives of any Space Mission before you embarrass yourself with your ignorance. This mission is unique, we are out there to conduct the 3-d topological and mineralogical mapping of the Lunar surface.

Many of the Europeans and Canadians were trying to hide their own ineptitude by trying to divert the attention towards India's infrastructure, poverty and related issues.Many other numbskulls felt that we should solve all the problems on Earth before venturing out into Space. If that was what every inventor thought, we as a species would not have made it this far.Like Bill Maher says, "Having to live with such dimwits also affects our standard of living".

My only solace was in the fact that many from South Asia and Africa were happy at India's achievement. Some Sri Lankans, Campodians, South Africans, Russians, Nigerians and even Pakistanis lauded India's success! There was a small minority of Americans and Europeans who shared our happiness. Who felt that India's emergence into the league of Space faring Nations will help in mutual co-operation in furthering the exploration of Space and will eventually benefit humanity as a whole. Thanks to all you guys for your wishes. I commend you guys who have risen beyond National boundaries and have come to support us!

To all other lowly souls: For once be happy that 1/3rd of humanity (India,China) is reclaiming its rightful place. Both are 5000 year old continuous civilizations which until the 1700 AD were the richest in the world, and then we were plundered by the Brits. It is indeed a remarkable achievement for us to have gotten out of the mess created by you, in 60 years and now we have our eyes set on the Space. You dare not tell us what India should do. We are no longer the humble colony under your Raj.Mind your business in bailing out your greedy banks.

Covetous Capitalists preaching Socialism to us? Get a life sore-losers!

@The racist Brits
I leave this video for you guys (from Namaste London)

You echo my opinions. With the success of this mission we have instilled fear in them. I am sure they must have been secretly hoping for something else to happen so they could make a huge coverage and get some high ratings.

Guess what, like you said everyone is going to throng for our technology to launch the satellites very cheap. These idiots blame us for stealing their jobs. They have no idea who is behind actually sending the jobs away. It is their own executives who see the skill and cost effectiveness turning to us. They are frogs in a bowl of boiling soup, they will never understand their implications. They are just blinded from the big picture.

scathing, nevertheless interesting! mind your words Vatsan, you do not know who is watching.

For a nation thats just 63 years old, this is a remarkable achievement. USA was still fighting a civil war at this age. Whats more special about this launch is that, India have managed to do it with complete Indigenous technology. PSLV is completely indegenous. Unlike USA or for that matter ESA, they never poached any of the German engineers/SS leaders (Dr Werner van Braun) to develop their rockets and technology. NASA would have found it very difficult without him.
Poverty is prevalent in all countries and India is no exception to that. But in India, the space explorations are done keeping the common man always into the picture. This new space industry would be beneficial to every citizen of India, just like the IT revolution was. There was an article sometime back in some English daily in India, that every job in IT has generated numerous other jobs for the other people. If you need a new IT office in the out skirts of the City, you need a better road to access it, this creates jobs for the common workers in the construction Industry. There was even an article that the Irula community that specializes in catching snakes in Chennai are now regularly employed to catch snakes that occassionally move into these new IT offices that are built in the outskirts of the city. So this revolution in the end would benefitial to every citizen of India.
Having spoken to numerous people in the UK, I have come to know that the majority of the people in this country are absolutely pathetic when it comes to Knowledge in any field. All they are bothered about are boozing, smoking and other crap....
They hardly know anything more than their own city and they seem to take pride in revealing this to others!! You are called a loser, if you have more knowledge than the other or more studious!! You can't expect them to understand economics or for that matter anything. So its best to ignore them, coz they are too stupid to understand anything other than booze.

Speaking of Poverty, India has managed to reduce the numbre of people under the pvoerty line by 10% within the last 5-10 years. but the number of people living below the poverty line in UK and the US has increased significantly over the past few years!! The britishers keep moaning that outsiders are taking away their jobs, but they are happy to take their unemployment allowance rather than work in supermarkets or any other such jobs.

US and UK invests very highly in education, but at almost all science and maths competetions their children are browbeaten completely. Students who pass out of Schools can hardly spell simple words in English, let alone speak a statement gramattically correct!!

I find it amusing and surprising to find advertisements in public transports here in UK encouraging people to study even after they are 16 yrs of age. The number of drop-outs in India is phenomally lower than the west!
I think the West must try to introspect their own culture and society before passing judgement or comments on others!

Maybw we should run a similar poll in NDTV

Should not Britian return India's valued possession that they looted?

Should not Britian consider making their economy stronger than conducting un necessary polls?

Should not Britons learn to be more racially tolerant and realize being white means nothing if your money is not safe in your banks?

Should not Britons mind thier own business? Oh wait a minute, you dont have a business, you are busy waiting for your government to bail out your banks!

Time has come for India to take matters seriously and kick ass. We have been a softy for a real long time now.

Why should we care about other countries comments? Its a proud achievement for us. You've echoed the voice of the billion Indians very well! Way to go! Honestly, we should ask the Brits and the Mughals to return back all that they've taken from our land - then we'll know who will be pointing ifngers at whom! And look which countries are talking about India first reducing its poverty line instead of a space mission! Atleast we aren't going bankrupt and begging for bailouts from our government.

@megh
Yeah jackasses they are :-p

@maduraiveeran
Well...while it is understandable that they feel concerned about jobs being outsourced, they don't buy the fact that outsourcing has made their companies more efficient to create more homgrown jobs.

@Kd
How much can we control the anger within? It must have a vent, I don't care who reads it. x-(

@Annathai
Yes, ignorance is omnipresent in the west i guess....I used to think education solves problems.... but now i realize education makes people willfully ignorant (as with many in the west)

@Nivi
Well NDTV wouldn't
check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCEO4Rw9Zd8 about Indian secular media.

but yes...India should kick-ass :-) like you said.

@meenu
Thanks for stopping by!

Greeted with patriotism in the media, the launch appeared to have distracted India from an economic slowdown, collapsing stock prices and outbreaks of ethnic and religious violence.

and this is exciting for us because the next time we call customer service at Microsoft, we might be calling the moon.

In bad taste, I would say!

You could not have chosen a better video to highlight the point in question.While watching the film the scene was lost in the crowd of actions and comedy situations.But in this video the dialogues assume a significant proportion and are thoroughly enjoyable.The Britons in particularly and the Europeans in general cannot digest the progress of a nation that was under their subjugation and exploitation for such a long time."The hunted becoming the hunter"is something they cannot take in their stride at all!

Hi Juggernaut,
Its Irwin Jürgen here from Germany(not nazi Germany); I understand to a certain extent what you are saying.I posted several of my thoughts on BBC UK's have your say, supporting India's mission. But brit bastards always moderated my posts. I said to them, that you guys are missing a point here, this mission is cheaper if you take away all the economy class in an Airline and only keep business class(360 passengers) for a to and fro trip from Frankfurt to Kualalumpur(spell check please).
I think it offended the redcoat(colonial name of brits) moderators when I called them as pirates of the 18th and 20th century.
I even pointed out in my post that India people can do the same to space industry what we Germans did to Automobile industry after WW2.
Btw, my wife is an India woman, she is from the city of Vizag(Vishakapattnam).
I have a british and three India colleagues at my research Institute. To my experience british are Racists and have hard ass look on their faces whenever they face an Indian or a German.
While We Germans are very excited about the fact that one of our instruments is on Chandrayaan-1 the redcoat colleague had a hard arse look on his face, and was seen giving a frosty nose to the Indian colleagues.
The very day India launched the mission, I was laughing and chuckling at 5:30 am in Germany thinking what must be going on in the heads of the following nationality people:
1. Fish and chips bastards i.e, Brits
2. Pakistani
3. USA
4. you can add in the list on your own.

I have observed one thing, I dont know if you youngsters have observed it or not, after WW2; the Americans built economic policies in such a way that, Europe, America and Australia along with Russia (to a certain extent) depend on eachothers economy very closely: If one collapses rest also collapse!
They thought old civilizations:
1. India
2, Egypt
3.Roman Empire(Italy)
4. Greece
5. chinese
do not have any significance in the new world.
Each of these civilizations were downgrading each day.
Egypt hit hard by islamic fundamentalism. Greece no significance, no industrialization. Italy became a place of poor people(extremely poor). They in their colonial visions never thought India and China have a chance. Even a term called"Hindu growth Rate " was termed , to degrade India. Search on google.

But, India people as if always knew, atleast always a section of people of India at every point of time, knew always that they only way to get back to top is Science and Technology.

I think this has what led you people to glory in the past and it will lead you to glory again.
Mark my words my friends, keep this hunger of Science and tech alive in the coming generations of India. because if this time these American and British bastards come out of economic crisis, they will plan in such a way to include India and China as well in their "Drown with me plan", Only way to rescue is a large section of society with Engineers and Scientists and Agriculture scientists.
Sincerely
Yours an Indophile
Irwin

@Indophile Irwin :-)

Thank you for sharing our happiness.
I hope more and more people from the west see the east with a broader mind.

It is ultimately humanity that prospers from such scientific endeavors. It should be greeted with joy and not hatred/envy.

If not for the chinese, we wouldn't have had gunpowder that played a significant role in development of crude missiles by Tipu Sultan. If not for the russians we would not have had the theoretical breakthroughs required in rocket flight (Tsiolkovsky). If not for the American (Goddard) we would not have had the concept of multiple staging of Rockets. If not for the Germans (Oberth and Von Braun) we would not have the modern day rockets.

Thus, the victory in the end is that of Humanity....which is why we should feel happy for every technological breakthrough achieved by ANY country.
